Brookfield police arrested a 44-year-old Brookfield man on May 19 for domestic battery.

Around 4 a.m., police responded to the 4400 block of Raymond Avenue on the report, in which a woman called and stated the man was intoxicated, had pushed her and was verbally abusing her. One officer met with the man after asking him to step outside of the residence while other officers met with the woman inside.

The man told the officer he had been sleeping in his bed with his son when the woman entered the room and began recording him. He said he pushed the woman away and didn’t know if she fell or hit the wall as a result. He said she scratched him, beat him up and spit on him in response and that he swatted at her phone to stop her from recording him.

The officer noted that they did not observe any “obvious” signs of injury on the man’s person and that his breath smelled of alcohol. The man declined medical assistance and said he had drunk “enough [alcohol] to go to sleep,” according to police.

Police redacted the portion of the report describing the woman’s statements. After taking both statements and watching the video footage captured by the woman, police arrested the man for domestic battery and transported him to the lockup facility in Berwyn. Police read the man his Miranda warnings, and he declined to answer any further questions.

Expired registration, suspended license

Brookfield police on May 21 arrested a 22-year-old Chicago man after discovering the car he was driving did not have required registration.

Around 8:38 p.m., an officer was on patrol in an unmarked vehicle when they observed a Nissan heading west on the 9000 block of Ogden Avenue that did not appear to have registration. The officer activated the squad car’s emergency lights and pulled the Nissan over on the 9100 block of Ogden.

There, the officer approached the car and saw it had temporary registration plates that had expired in 2024. The officer spoke with the driver, who “immediately” said his driver’s license had been suspended, according to police. The officer confirmed the suspension through the police database.

The officer informed the man his car would need to be towed and that he would be issued citations. Police cited the man for improper display of registration, driving on a suspended license and driving a vehicle with expired registration. The officer set a June 9 court date and confiscated the man’s suspended license to mail back to the Secretary of State before he was sent on his way.
