Riverside trustees voted 4-2 on Thursday not to renew the village’s contract with Flock Safety for two automatic license plate reader cameras in town.

The contract is set to expire on its own terms on May 31, 2027, with the surveillance technology remaining in use until then. The village board will discuss whether to immediately sunset Riverside’s use of the cameras at their next meeting on Thursday, Nov. 5, and trustees directed staff to begin looking into alternatives to Flock, including local cameras.

Trustees Cristin Evans, Joseph Fitzgerald, Jill Mateo and Aberdeen Marsh-Ozga voted not to renew the contract while trustees Alex Gallegos and Elizabeth Kos voted to budget funds for its renewal for fiscal year 2027.

This is a developing story. Watch for updates.
