The following information was obtained from police reports filed by the Riverside and Brookfield police departments from Jan. 24 through Jan. 30 and represents a portion of the incidents to which police responded. Unless otherwise indicated, anyone named in these reports has only been charged with a crime. The cases have not yet been adjudicated.
Two 18-year-old Brookfield residents last week were charged with multiple offenses stemming from their alleged involvement in a criminal defacement incident on Jan. 14.
Anthony J. Forlano and Jamie Vega were charged with criminal defacement, mob action and disorderly conduct for allegedly throwing buckets of paint on the back porch, deck and sidewalk of a residence in the 3900 block of Sunnyside Avenue. Forlano was also charged with criminal trespass.
According to the police report, Forlano was arrested on Jan. 25 after a week-long investigation led police to believe that both he and Vega committed the act. After his arrest, Forlano allegedly told police that he had received a call from a man who offered to pay him $200 to ruin the deck of the Sunnyside Avenue house because “the people at the house had not paid for a job that was done.”
Forlano allegedly stated he had done other jobs like this in the past in suburban Round Lake, and that he was paid $50 after he had returned from defacing the Sunnyside Avenue property. Vega was arrested on Jan. 26, and allegedly told the police he also had been paid $50 for his part, but both refused to tell police who the source of the money was.
On Jan. 14, Forlano said that a female acquaintance drove him and Vega to the Sunnyside Avenue home. While the car was parked in the alley, Forlano and Vega threw the paint on the porch and deck, leaving the paint cans behind.
Police used labels on the paint cans to track down the two alleged offenders. Police are continuing the investigation.
DUI
? Downers Grove resident Linda S. Jordan, 56, was charged with driving under influence after an officer observed her vehicle cross the center lane twice while traveling in the 9500 block of 31st Street in Brookfield, at 4:31 a.m. on Jan. 30. During the stop, Jordan allegedly told the officer she had two rum and colas. She failed field sobriety tests and blew a .172 on the Breathalyzer, more than twice the legal limit. She was also cited for improper lane usage.
? Brookfield police charged Oak Brook resident Frances M. Price, 49, with driving under the influence after she was reported driving erratically, Jan. 25 at 1:37 p.m., on Kemman Avenue near 31st Street. LaGrange Park police alerted Brookfield to watch for a 2000 Buick four-door heading southbound on Kemman Avenue.
A Brookfield officer observed the car go through a red light at 31st Street, causing other cars to swerve out of the way. The car crossed the double yellow line several times as it continued southbound, and blew through a stop sign at Washington Avenue before pulling over in the 3800 block of Kemman Avenue.
According to the report, Price didn’t appear fully aware of her surroundings and was transported to LaGrange Memorial Hospital, where a blood draw was partially completed. A search of Price’s vehicle turned up several prescription medications.
In addition to DUI, she was charged with disobeying a traffic control signal, disobeying a stop sign and improper lane usage.
? Riverside police charged Chicago resident Rafael Bartolo, 33, with driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs after his car was reported crossing the double yellow line three times while heading southbound in the 3200 block of Harlem Avenue at 10:24 p.m. on Jan. 29. After failing field sobriety tests, police discovered a plastic baggie in Bartolo’s right front pants pocket, which contained eight grams of a green leafy substance that field-tested positive for cannabis. A breath test showed a blood-alcohol level of .055, which is under the legal limit, but police charged him with DUI of alcohol and drugs after Bartolo allegedly admitted to smoking the cannabis. He was also cited for not having a valid driver’s license.
Burglary
? A resident of the 9500 block of Burlington Boulevard, Brookfield, reported that sometime between Jan. 26 and 29 someone entered his unlocked garage and stole approximately $8,000 worth of hand tools from an industrial tool box.
Theft
? A student at S.E. Gross School in Brookfield reported that on Jan. 26, someone had taken her purse from the school’s cafeteria. The purse was later found in a locker room, but a Nextel phone and Tiffany silver necklace were missing.
Obstruction
? Lyons resident Angel Valdez, 23, was charged with obstructing a police officer after he allegedly gave the officer a false name and date of birth during a traffic stop at 11:14 a.m. on Jan. 28 on First Avenue in Riverside. After fingerprinting Valdez, police learned his real identity and the fact that his driver’s license had been suspended in 2002 as the result of driving under the influence charges.
