Riverside police arrested a 40-year-old Chicago man with an extensive criminal history after he was found allegedly trying to burglarize a house in the 100 block of Riverside Road on the afternoon of May 1.
The homeowner called police just after 1 p.m., saying she had seen a man inside a second-floor bedroom of the home. The man, later identified as Dominick J. Harvey, fled on foot from the scene after being confronted by the homeowner, but was picked up within minutes about two blocks north of the scene near the intersection of Gage and Herbert roads by Sgt. William Legg.
Legg said that Harvey was carrying a pair of cloth work gloves and a pair of surgical gloves at the time of his arrest. Police said Harvey was identified by the alleged victim as the man she saw going through dresser drawers in the bedroom.
Harvey reportedly told police he took the bus to Riverside and was in the house looking for a friend.
The Cook County State’s Attorney approved a felony charge of residential burglary against Harvey, who police said has a history of some 60 convictions, ranging from traffic offenses to theft and burglary.
At a hearing on May 2, a Cook County judge denied bond and amended the charge to a Class X felony due to Harvey’s criminal history.
If convicted in this case, Harvey faces between six and 30 years in prison.
